Doro Pesch (full name: Dorothee Pesch, born 3 June 1964, Düsseldorf, Germany) is a female vocalist, formerly of the German heavy metal band Warlock and one of the few female singers of the 1980s heavy metal scene, which was primarily a male-dominated genre of music.
After Warlock went through many line-up changes, Pesch was the only remaining original member of the band. After changing her record label, she released the fifth album as Doro, as the former label owned the trademark on the Warlock name.
Pesch now pursues a solo career and lives in New York City. The 2004 album Classic Diamonds was a collaboration with The Classic Night Orchestra which reworked some of her earlier songs. Her latest album is Fear no Evil which was released in 2009.
Quote:
It’s hard to believe that the blonde, Teutonic beauty, Doro Pesch, has been cranking out power ballads and metal tunes for 20 years. Hence the name of the new Doro DVD 20 Years - A Warrior Soul which features her on the road with nearly 20 live songs being played around Europe and Russia, interspersed with fan interviews, rock star appearances wishing her the best, interviews with her and the band as well as footage of them “On The Road.” The language is a combination of German and English, although most of the songs are in English, with the exception of “Für Immer.”
This being an anniversary tour, it’s almost bittersweet as Doro remembers the years both as a member of Warlock and then going solo. This portion of the 1st DVD is filled almost exclusively with power ballads and runs 90 minutes.
The next part of the 1st disc is ”20 Years Anniversary - The Movie.” This is a special concert in Germany that they have been planning for a couple of years. The concert is cut to 91 minutes and features performances all from the same show, unlike the “On The Road” segment which normally showed scenes from multiple performances all within each song. The killer thing about this movie is the special guests who appear with Doro and the band on stage. Some are German musicians that you may never have heard of while others are known to American audiences - Udo Dirkschneider (Accept, Udo), Jean Beauvoir, Blaze Bailey (ex-Wolfsbane, ex-Iron Maiden), Lemmy & Mikkey Dee (Motorhead), Saxon & the original Warlock!
If you want to see the uncut version that runs nearly 3 hours (the longest performance of Doro’s career) then pop in the second DVD. This makes the collection nearly 6 hours full of music from a lady who still looks hotter than hell in leather and can still rock out, including remakes of “White Wedding” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” as well as Doro’s signature tune “All We Are” where everyone joins her onstage.
