Description:Rod_Cunt presents:

A bunch of albums from my cd collection that I consider to be classic albums.  Thought I'd take a break from releasing Black Metal packs and give you people some variety. Some of it you may have heard, some of it you may not, some bands you may not have even heard of...  However, I guarantee all of these albums to be extremely worthwhile pieces of art - every one a classic album in its own right.

I'm not fucking around here...there are 56 (count 'em) albums at 320kbps.

Around a quarter of the albums are Noisecore, a quarter are Death or Dark Metal, and the other half is more heavy rock and metal.  There are also a couple of non-metal albums in here too.

Aereogramme - A Story in White
(it's what indie would sound like if the cunts used distortion pedals properly)

Aghora - Aghora
(Couple of the guys from the legendary Cynic + another guy and a fantastic female vocalist; Buddhist Death Metal I reckon)

Anathema - Alternative 4
(One of the saddest albums I've ever heard.  If someone you love has just died, you need this album.  Alternatively, just listen if you're regular depressed)

Apollyon Sun - Sub
(Thomas Gabriel Fischer's band after (and before the reformation of) Celtic Frost.  Incredible)

Bal-Sagoth - Starfire Burning Upon the Ice-Veiled Throne of Ultima Thule
(The majesty of this album cannot be stated in mere words.  This sounds like the glorious clamour of steel upon steel!)

Beyond Dawn - Electric Sulking Machine
(Weird bleepy, mildly dissonant rock)

Biohazard - The State of the World Address
(Their best album by far, it has songs, it's heavy, aggressive and vicious)

Botch - We Are the Romans
(Possibly the best Noisecore album ever - better songs and less wilfully obscure than Dillenger Escape Plan)

Boyhitscar - Boyhitscar
(Kind of nu-metal, but not shit.  Great songwriting, and pretty heavy too.  Lots of dynamics for the genre)

Candiria - Process of Self Development
(More Noisecore, this time cross with jazz, a little rap and even featuring some bagpipes!)

Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverence
(Great early nineties metal album.  It rawks!)

Converge - Jane Doe
(When I first heard this it blew my head off.  This is the sound of extreme personal turmoil and grief distilled into genius and pissed out as music)

Crowbar - Odd Fellows Rest
(Their best album bar none. Heavier than all of the band members put together.  Great melodies and songwriting)

Dam - Purity: The Darwinian Paradox
(Death Metal in the vein of Carcass, At the Gates, with a little Meshuggah thrown in)

Dawn - Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy)
(Epic Swedish Death Metal.  Darker than Dark Tranquility, In Flames et al. Has more of the feel of Black Metal to it.  A classic)

December Wolves - Blasterpiece Theatre
(Chaotic Black Metal with DM guitar tone.  Completely bonkers!)

Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine / Biomech
(Devin's best album (along with SYL's City) would make my top 5 albums of the 90's.  It is utterly incredible - listen to it with your eyes sounds like an Ocean Machine)

Diamanda Galas - Plague Mass
(Her voice is incredible.  This scares the shit out of me!)

Dream City Film Club - In the Cold Light of Morning
(It's rock, and it's well dark...)

Drowningman - Rock 'n' Roll Killing Machine
(Awesome Noisecore: short sharp and to the point. Great songtitles too)

Earthtone9 - lo-def(inition) discord
(Criminally underated UK band's first album.  This one is the companion piece to Vision of Disorder's 'Imprint' album.  Fucking vicious)

Earthtone9 - arc'tan'gent
(Their last album, sadly.  The band split up soon after as they were ignored by the record buying public)

Everlast - Whitey Ford Sings the Blues
(Ok, this isn't metal but it IS a great album. Rap meets rock and doesn't turn into a shitty mess)

God - Possession
(Uncomfortable, edgy, nasty griminess.  Features Kevin Martin, John Zorn and Justin Broadrick (of Godflesh))

Hovercraft - Experiment Below
(Instrumental guitar music (Post Rock?) from a guy from Pearl Jam (I think))

Iron Monkey - Our Problem
(99% of sludge bands copy this album 99% of the time (Eyehategod's "Take as Needed for Pain" is also highly plagiarised).  Check out the demented vocals)

Isis - Celestial
(I still think this is their best album.  This is interesting, it has atmosphere... You could imagine satellites listening to this)

Julian Cope - Jehovahkill
(I guess this is rock music... Pagan, anti-Christian sentiments, great songs...)

Keith Caputo - Died Laughing
(A non-metal solo album from Keith Caputo.  Excellent songwriting from the mouth of LOA)

Life of Agony - River Runs Red
(Depressing uptempo metal with hardcore influences.  First album to feature the midget with the enormous voice: Keith Caputo)

Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
(This will remind you what they were like before they got shit.  When Richey James left/disappeared, it was no coincidence that all the bile, rage and hate that is in this album left the band who went on to become bland stadium rockers with too much money and too little inspiration)

Masters of Reality - Sunrise on the Sufferbus
(Chris Goss' Masters of Reality's second album, this time benefiting massively from the drumming of Ginger Baker (bar none the best drummer the world has seen or will ever see). Rock albums just don't get any better than this)

Medulla Nocte - Dying on the Inside
(Like At the Gates crossed with Botch I some Soilent Green)

Mindrot - Soul
(Incredible band that no one has heard of.  Mindrot sound like Mindrot - as all the best bands do (ie sound like themselves))

Moby - Animal Rights
(No really, the annoying bald veggie once made a metal album...and it's actually really good)

Moonspell - Sin / Pecado
(Dark Gothic Rock from Portugal.  The album is about 100 times better than that sounds)

My Dying Bride - 34.788%...Complete
(MDB were panned by their fans for this one.  Personally I think it's great.  It's good to see a long standing band like MDB experiment and take a few risks)

Myrkskog - Deathmachine
(Zyklon and Disiplin sound like this, but Myrkskog were first.  The production and the songwriting kills on this album)

Novocaine - Nervous Disposition
(It's pretty uptempo rock with depressing lyrics and minor key vocals.  This could only be British)

Sceptic - Pathetic Being
(Semi melodic technical death metal.  If you like the likes of Atheist, Cynic and At the Gates, this is for you)

Soilent Green - Sewn Mouth Secrets
(Bewildering death metal / sludge from New Orleans)

Steve Von Till - If I Should Fall to the Field
(Great acoustic songs from the Neurosis guitarist/vocalist)

Stuck Mojo - Declaration of a Headhunter
(Ok, so it's a little nu-metal...mostly due to the semi-occasional rapping.  That said, the guitars are meaty, the harmonies are well judged and the choruses are huge)

The Apex Theory - Self-titled
(Nu-Metal that doesn't suck)

The Blood Divine - Awaken
(Dark symphonic metal from Paul Ryan (ex-COF) and Darren White (ex-Anathema).  Sadly only made two albums before splitting)

The Chasm - The Spell of Retribution
(Death Metal from Mexico with muchos melodies.  Cracking album)

Today is the Day - In the Eyes of God
(First album I heard to feature the octopus-like drumming of Brann Dailor (now of Mastodon).  Imagine his drumming + Noisecore + demented, distorted vocals and you've got a good idea of this)

Transport League - Satanic Panic
(Good crunchy, metallic fun)

Turmoil - ...The Process of...
(Vicious Noisecore in the vein of Botch and Drowningman)

Unholy - Gracefallen
(One of the few Euro doom bands that could come anywhere close to My Dying Bride in terms of songwriting quality and the sound of sheer despair)

Unida - Coping with the Urban Coyote
(Unfairly lumped into the Stoner genre when this is just properly good rock music with great songwriting - if anyone has their second (UNRELEASED) album, please upload it)

Valve - Pulling Legs off Flies
(Super obscure English band (so obscure they're not even on Metal Archives) that I know nothing about other than this album kicks ass.  Sounds a tiny bit like Alice in Chains)

VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theatre
(Great electronic rock album from the guitar prodigy Jon Crosby)

Vision of Disorder - Imprint
(Their moment of greatness.  Vicious, amazing, and never to be repeated (by them at least).  They put out a nu-metal album and split up afterwards)

While Heaven Wept - Of Empires Forlorn
(Epic Doom.  Reminds me a little of Doomsword and Solstice)

Will Haven - El Diablo
(Genius debut album that they could never quite follow)

If you like any of these albums, please buy them.

Thanks are also appreciated.
